(AG=95) Opaque dark amber; this coats the glass like motor oil or Pedro Ximenez sherry. Explosively intense aromas of sultanas, dried fig, vanilla, caramel, white chocolate, mocha and burnt brown sugar. Rich, viscous and super sweet, but with very high acidity lifting the amazingly concentrated flavours of raisin, fig, mocha and balsamic herbs. Finishes thick, rich and smooth, with truly amazing length. An exceptional example of a great sweet wine that is like a liquid vanilla-almond-caramel syrup. My only caveat is that ever since Avignonesi has held back the release of this wine one more year (it is now aged ten years in small barrels just like the Occhio di Pernice Vin Santo), it seems to have become even thicker and to have lost a touch of clarity and cut. Still, this is simply an amazing wine: if I weren't worried about being charged with defaming it, I would recommend pouring it over vanilla ice cream.

(WS=95) Thick and heavy, this coats the palate with dried apricot, fig paste, caramel and molasses flavours. This is impressive for its concentration, but also comes clean on the finish, courtesy of bright acidity. Long, expansive finish. Drink now through 2018.
